Ministry and Family Update

Thursday, 21 February 2008

After another week in some of Kenya’s displaced peoples’ camps I want to thank you for praying. These folks are so needy; they’ve been broken by the terrible, unexpected turn of events in their country. Tribalism has been exposed even in the hearts of Christians who thought they loved people of all tribes.

Helping in a Kenyan Hospital

Thursday, 14 February 2008

I was asked to help out for the mornings at the hospital out-patient department because they lost some of their nursing staff and only one of their nine doctors remained after the tribal clashes. I gave immunizations to babies and checked blood pressures for expectant mothers. In the afternoons back at the camp I was triage nurse in the long lines waiting to be examined by a doctor or nurse.

Week in the Nakuru IDP Camp

Monday, 11 February 2008

Arrived mid morning to Nakuru, a large town 2 1/2 hours west of Nairobi where several camps of displaced people are located. MAP International has set up an office at the Nakuru Showground, an area where an annual agricultural and economic fair is held. There were large trees and many buildings which are like permanent exhibits for various government organizations.

Week in the Naivasha IDP Camp

Sunday, 10 February 2008

I returned on Friday from 5 days in Naivasha offering medical care to the displaced people in two camps, at the prison and the police station. Kimberly Tipton and I partnered with MAP (Medical Assistance Program) International and we were on a team with three Kenyans and three other Americans who came just to help in this crisis. What an amazing time we had! I don’t know where to begin to describe what we saw.

Work in the IDP Camps

Sunday, 3 February 2008

Below is the prayer update written today by our teammate, Kimberly Tipton. Since she says so well everything I was about to write to you, I asked for permission to just forward her message to you. We both feel excited and privileged to be working this coming week in Naivasha and Nakuru, such needy areas of the country. Please pray for us to constantly point each other and those we serve to the gospel of our merciful savior. – Lois.
